This is one of the first time that an entire show with only black artists was broadcast prime time on national television.
From a historical perspective, it was preceded only (a priori) by some Harry Belafonte shows: "Tonight with Belafonte" (the Revlon Revue) aired on CBS in December 10, 1959 at 8:30 pm ; Belafonte produced later "The Strollin' 20s" aired February 21, 1966 on CBS at 9:00 pm. His next production, "ABC Stage 67: A Time For Laughter" wasn't aired prime time but at 10:00 pm on April 6, 1967.

Note: several songs were edited from the tv program. For example, "I'm the Greatest Star" was edited probably because the song was later (keep in mind that this show was taped on August) programmed in the Ed Sullivan show of September to promote the Funny Girl album.
