Diana Ross and Robert Silberstein are married at Silver Bells Chapel in Las Vegas by Reverend Hutchinson at 01:00 am. Suzanne DePass and Marc Fisher serve as their witnesses to the wedding.
Erroneously on January 10 and married to a 45 years old Robert Silberstein (he was actually 25!) in Mark Ribowsky’s “The Supremes, A Saga…” (p. 381).

Engelbert Humperdinck and Liberace are among celebrities expected to attend the party that the Morris Lansburghs are giving newlyweds Diana Ross and Robert Silberstein. The event takes place Sunday at Miami Beach's Eden Roc. 
February 28
Diana Ross and the Carpenters perform at the fifth annual presentation of the NARM scholarship awards, at the Los Angeles Ballroom in the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel.
Diana Ross wins the award of Best Soul Artist (other nominee are Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Freda Payne and Dionne Warwick). Diana Ross looses Top Female Vocalist to Dionne Warwick (other nominee are Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Melanie, Joni Mitchell, Barbra Streisand).

13th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, the first to be televised. Diana Ross is nominated for best contemporary female singer with “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” (Dionne Warwick wins for “I'll Never Fall in Love Again”).

Release of the LP “Diana! - Original TV Soundtrack” (#46 on pop charts) (the release date is March 18 according Billboard March 13, 1971 issue but it’s probably a typo as it was originally planned to be released on the same day of the TV broadcast on April 18, but in Billboard (April 10, 1971 issue) it’s written it’s released 3 weeks before the TV show, so on March 29).

Broadcast of the Jackson 5 special: “Goin' Back To Indiana” in which Diana Ross makes a short cameo appearance.

November 5
Diana Ross & Robert Silberstein attend the premiere of “Fiddler On the Roof” at the Fox Wilshire Theatre in Hollywood.
Note: the world premiere of fiddler On the Roof was in New York at the Rivoli Theatre on November 3, but Diana Ross most probably attended the Hollywood premiere held on November 5.

November 21
Diana Ross is named honorary chairman of the NAACP’s 5th annual Image presentation and show held at the International Room of the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
She is awarded for her television special “Diana!”: Best Television Special of the Year (she won last year’s entertainer of the year award), and Marvin Gaye is given the "Nation's most socially significant entertainer" award.  
(Erroneously on November 12, in the Los Angeles Times, October 15, 1971 issue: November 12 is a Friday and the event occurred on Sunday).
